As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, the FlareNet Network is working to ensure that our research progresses, while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. Unfortunately, many components of our research are being impacted due to University closures and restricted lab access, restrictions on travel for field measurements, and postponements or cancellations of meetings and academic conferences. Nevertheless, several aspects of our work are advancing well as we focus on data analysis and publication of work to date (notably including recent field measurement successes in North Dakota and Ecuador and completion of a major experimental campaign at Carleton University), while planning for continued experiments as soon as they are able to resume.
In the coming weeks, FlareNet will hold a Principle Investors (PIs) meeting, in which we will discuss options for maintaining research progress in the face of whatever permitted operating conditions that seem likely to prevail into the summer. Any proposed modifications to research plans will then be communicated to and considered by both our Scientific Advisory Committee and our Board of Directors as we navigate the months ahead.
The FlareNet Network wishes everyone good health during these extraordinary times.
