Gregory A. Kopp
Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Acting Dean
Prof. Gregory A. Kopp is Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Associate Dean (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies) at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Kopp is a worldrenowned authority in the use of boundary layer wind tunnels to simulate complex atmospheric flows, with specific expertise in atmospheric boundary layers, fluid mechanics, and turbulence measurements. He has made significant contributions to understanding the role of atmospheric turbulence on building aerodynamics and low-rise building performance during extreme wind storms, along with the research tools to study these. He has been active in converting research findings into practical design solutions by serving on standards committees for wind loads on buildings and working with industry research organizations. He is currently Chair for the next version of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 49 Standard “Wind Tunnel Testing for Buildings and Other Structures”.
