Nicole McDonald recently joined the Clean Fuels Branch in Natural Resources Canada as the Director Special Programs where she designed and will be delivering the $675M Emission Reduction Fund- Onshore Program aimed at methane reduction in the conventional oil and gas sector. Prior to that Nicole occupied the position of Director Science and Technology at the Office of Energy Research and Development where she was responsible for the design and delivery of programs to reduce the environmental impact on energy production in Canada. Additionally, Nicole provided oversight to the Clean Air Energy Research Program Team at NRCan responsible for emissions measurement, speciation and emissions mitigation in Canada and globally. Nicole has worked in the oil and gas industry for over 17 years mitigating oil sands environmental issues including authoring sections of environmental impact assessments as well as leading research and development at the Natural Resources Canada CanmetENERGY lab, in Devon, Alberta. Nicole brings to the Board extensive knowledge of upstream oil and gas environmental issues and experience working with a variety of stakeholders, along with excellent communication skills that build and lead effective cross-functional teams. Nicole holds an MBA with specialization in Natural Resources and Environment and a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of Alberta. She is based in Ottawa.
