Prof. Philip J. Smith is a professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah where he also serves as the Director of the Institute for Clean and Secure Energy (ICSE). His research interests include high-performance computing for combustion simulations, large eddy simulations (LES), fire and coal simulations, validation and uncertainty quantification, and multi-physics and multi-scale modeling. Among other contributions, Prof. Smith has worked on LES simulation of gas flares in crossflows and currently is the chair of the American Flame Research Committee (AFRC), whose membership includes a large international network of flaring professionals. Prof. Smith is also currently serving as the President of CRSim Inc. a Utah company which markets predictive simulation technologies for operating burner, furnace and flare systems. He is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
